WHY DO WE ALL NEED MORE PLANT MINERALS IN OUR DIET?

Picture

A million years ago there were at least 84 minerals in the uppermost layers of the earth, plants would have been extremely nutritious, probably part of the reason why plant eating dinosaurs were  able to grow and evolve to be so large.

Today, the nutritional value of our food is declining rapidly, due to wind and rain erosion, continuous plant growth, intensive farming practices and chemical fertilizers, pesticides,   and insecticides.

Minerals are the basic building blocks of life. Even if we left the fields lay fallow for a year or two, it still would not put the minerals back in sufficient quantities where we need them, in the top eight feet of soil. That has probably  been lost forever.

Ever wonder why tomatoes don't taste of anything?

There used to be 84 minerals in the upper layers of the soil, now there are maybe 20 if we're lucky.

So where does that leave us? Eating vegetables and fruits where the trace mineral content has fallen by 76% (as determined by the Soil Assoc. using figures from the Dept of Enviroment, Food and Rural Affairs).

The nutritional value of food is declining as demand goes up, quantity now triumphs over quality & taste.

Minerals control millions of chemical and enzymatic processes, not only within us but all animals, and particularly the ones we live off.

Metallic minerals are locked in the earths crust, and are not easily broken down by the human body, our link to mineral assimilation is through primarily the plants that we eat . Plants can absorb and convert metallic minerals which we can then better assimilate through eating those  plants.  Mineral deficient plants means reduced food values for humans and  also the  grazing animals we eat. So although we tend to think we are eating well we are mostly mineral poor.

According to plant chemistry,  plant derived minerals are 100% absorbable so comparing metallic based minerals are like comparing sawdust to oatmeal.

Dr Linus Pauling, two time  Nobel Laureate said in his opinion, "One could trace every sickness and every ailment to a mineral deficiency!

"Dr Alexis Carrel, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize said "Soil is the basis of all human life and our only hope for a healthy or unhealthy world.  All of life will be either healthy or unhealthy according to the fertility of the soil. Minerals in the soil control the metabolism of cells in plants, animals and man....Diseases are created chiefly by destroying the harmony reigning among mineral substances present in infinitesimal amounts in air, water and food, but mostly importantly in soil".

Animals require at least 45 minerals, 12 amino acids, 16 vitamins and 3 essential fatty acids according to the National Science Foundation and animal husbandary research. Average land grown feed only contains about 18 minerals meaning lower levels of amino acids and essential fatty acids. The human body requires at least 60 minerals and basically the same other essentials as animals for optimal health, according to Gary Price Todd, M.D.

Only 18 minerals are available in any kind of quantity in most foods today. Most farmers never put back more than 4 minerals into the soil, it is just not cost effective and some minerslas would be unattainable. If the soil lacks minerals the plant is stunted, a plant cannot make minerals.
