Nutrition and Diet
What we eat can greatly affect our health and may lead to certain illnesses. Nutrition uses food, vitamins and minerals as a means of improving the body's bio-chemical and enzyme pathways. An assessment of an individual's diet and dietary habits is made in order to establish the body's deficiencies and needs.
Many doctors still perpetuate that if you eat a healthy balanced diet, you will recieve all the nutrients you need. According to some sources, only 5% of people in the Western World actually eat a healthy, balanced diet. The vast majority take meals on the run, eating pre-packaged, fast food that is lacking in nutrients. We are not only what we eat, but also what we can absorb and eliminate. In fact it's a false assumption to believe that whatever you swallow is automatically absorbed into your system.
Symptoms of malabsorbtion include hair loss, low energy levels, chronic fatigue, weight loss or gain, poor bone density, dry and wrinkled skin. If you get your digestive system in good working order, a huge amount of age related disorders could be avoided.
Colon Hydrotherapy is a good way of finding out how well your digestion system is working. Any undigested food present in the colon ( which can indicate digestion problems ), can be identified as it passes through the viewing tube during the treatment.
Foods To Avoid
Reduce your intake of red meats and heavy, rich meals. Concentrated proteins and fats such as red meat and cheese are generally harder to digest as they require more oxygen to break them down completely. We need to maintain a high oxygen level in our tissues to slow the aging process.
All junk foods reduce oxygen levels and accelerate loss of enzyme reserves in the body. The more unatural your diet the more the body has to produce enzymes to digest them, and over time symptoms emerge.
Cooked cheese is really hard on your digestive system.
Modern refined wheat and related products are often hard for us to digest as we lack the necessary enzymes.
Avoid drinking too much fluid with meals, which dilutes the stomach acid - the very substance you need for digesting your food.
Friendly Foods
Raw of lightly cooked foods contain enzymes, which aid digestion.
Pineapple is rich in the enzyme bromelain, which again aids digestion.
Generally increase your intake of of fresh raw foods. Eat a salad at least once daily. Light stir-fries and steamed vegetables are fine.
If you have a problem with wheat, try spelt. millet, buckwheat or quinoa-based breads, which should be available in supermarkets and health stores.
Try rice, corn or millet-based pasta, which are easier to digest.
If you have a problem with cows milk, try rice, oat or goats milk, which are gentler on the stomach.
A glass of red wine can help stimulate stomach acid production.
